The Samples consisted of 77 Mathayom Suksa 111 students at Promkhiripittayakorn School, Nakhon Si Thammarat province, in the second semester of the 1999 academic year. The design of the experiment was a Nonrandomized Control-Group Pretest-Posttest Design. Thirty-nine students were the experimental group using Southern folk songs as teaching aids and thirty-eight students were the control group without using Southern folk songs as teaching aids. The instruments were ; (1) nine lesson plans for the experimental group and control group ; (2) the poem writing test ; (3) the survey of attitude towards poem ,vriting : and (4) the survey of attitude towards Southern folk songs. The poem writing test and the survey of attitude in poem writing were administered as pretests to both groups and only the experimental group used the survey of attitude towards Southern folk songs. Then lesson plan for 16 periods were used to teach to control group and lesson plans using Southern folk songs as teaching aids for 16 periods were used to teach the experimental group. Finally, the poem writing test and the survey of attitude towards poem writing were given as posttest to both groups after the experimental has been completed. The statistics used for data analysis were one way ANCOVA and Pearson product-moment Correlation. The results indicated that the students in the experimental group had higher achievement and attitude than the control group at the .05 level. There were not different development in achievement and development in attitude towards poem writing in the experimental group that had different attitude to Southern folk songs. There were not different development in achievement and development in attitude towards poem writing in the experimental group that had different learning achievement.
